Sports Illustrated High School Athlete of the Month: Porter Milner

A couple weeks ago, my good friend James Drake, of James Drake Films, and I were able to team up with Sports Illustrated for a spotlight piece on a local high school athlete, Porter Milner, of Broomfield High School. But while Porter is an incredible talent on the soccer field and on the ski slopes, his contributions to his school and his community go far beyond just physical skill.

Hanging out with Porter for even just a couple days brought into perspective the positive impact that individuals (even at a high school level) can have on those around them. It makes me feel bad about how I spent my own time when I was that age. But Porter was an incredibly humble and down-to-earth kid, and genuinely wanted to help those around him. So if you have time, take a look at his story. It would be great to see more kids like him.

Sportsman of the Year

The first project I was fortunate enough to work on with the Denver Broncos was about a month ago when they came to interview Peyton Manning for the 2013 Sportsman of the Year award, which he was to be awarded. The news is finally out, and the video is now online so I thought I'd share it. I don't know how often I'll be able to work with either Sports Illustrated or the Denver Broncos, but it's been an extreme pleasure working with both organizations.

I hope you enjoy the video, and congratulations to Peyton for the award!

*Note: I recorded all interviews except those of Archie Manning and Lee Jenkins.

Rising Stars

About a week ago I was able to tag along with another Sports Illustrated shoot with the Denver Broncos as they put together a feature piece on Duke Ihenacho in their "Rising Stars" series*. Again, everyone was a complete pleasure to work with, and the shoot was really laid back and fun. It's incredible being around an organization like the Denver Broncos at such an exciting time in their history.

The Rising Stars video is now online! I'm having trouble with the embedded video right now, but please follow this link to check it out.

*Note: I recorded all interviews except for that of Don Banks, the ESPN analyst.

One Fine Day

Pardon the cliche, but Tuesday and Wednesday this week were really a dream come true for me. There's no other way to say it.

The main part of it happened when I was able to jump onto a Sports Illustrated shoot with the Denver Broncos, a team which I've loved for as long as I can remember. And as a part of the crew, I got to meet several of their most iconic players, both present and past: Peyton Manning, John Elway, Demaryius Thomas, Jacob Tamme and Wes Welker were some of the biggest names, and they were all great individuals. Given that the big game against the 9-0 Kansas City Chiefs is coming up this next weekend, they were all extremely focused, but it's not like I expected them to sit down in a chair for an interview and a party would break out all around them just because they are who they are, anyways.

I know they tell you never to meet your heroes, but they were all very nice and I'm glad that I had the opportunity to meet all of them.

The second big piece of business that happened this week is that we were able to submit Wash Park, a feature film we shot this summer, to South By Southwest.

I've worked on several features throughout my career already, but there's very few (in fact there's only one other besides this) that I've actually seen come to fruition. While Wash Park isn't a multi-million dollar feature, nor even a multi-thousand dollar feature, it's incredible to see what came of just a few (8) full shooting days with friends while enjoying the beautiful weather at Wash Park this summer. We won't know until January whether we're accepted to the festival or not, but whatever the case may be I'm extremely happy with all of our work, and hopefully something even bigger will come from this.

We're going to be looking for distribution, so it might be a while before you see the final product, but for now you can watch this small teaser that they put together to introduce the characters.
